A Study on Stressful Life Events and Coping Methods about Partly Tuberculosis Hospital Inpatients and General Hospital Inpatients


Abstract
This study was attempted to compare the stressful life events and coping methods of 120 pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients in Gong Ju National Tuberculosis Hospital and 120 general hospitalized inpatients in Chungnam National University Hospital.
Social Readjustment Rating Scale by Holmes and Rahe, and Coping Methods Scale by Bell were administered from July 1 to August 31, 1982.
The results of analysis are as follows:
1. Numbers of stressful life events and scores of the S. R. R. S. in general hospital inpatients were significantly higher than pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients.
2. In scores of each item of the S. R. R. S. , death of spouse, personal injury or illness, gain of new family member, business readjustment, change to different line of work were significantly higher in the general hospital inpatients than in the pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients, but marital separation, marital reconciliation, change in recreation, change in religion activities, vacation were significantly higher in the pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients than in the general hospital inpatients.
3. Pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients took place compoundly effective coping method and non-effective coping method.
